As an AGRUMIG partner, the Polis Asia Research Center (CPA) hosted a June 28, 2021 discussion on “Social Aspects of Migration” (quality migration). Gulzat Bayalieva (PhD, Tubingen University, Germany), Eldar Esenov (IT specialist, Georgia), Gulnara Derbisheva (Insan Leilek Public Foundation), and Gulnara Ibraeva (sociologist) were the invited speakers. AGRUMIG team members Fraser Sugden (UoB) and Irina Kuznetsova (UoB), while Nazikbek Kydyrmyshev (CPA) moderated the roundtable.

Speakers emphasized that education promotes higher-quality migration, although many migrants had trouble obtaining work in their field based on their university credentials. This is typical among Kyrgyz university graduates. Kyrgyz people work in specialized occupations like as shop assistants, construction workers, food delivery employees, taxi drivers, and so on because they speak Russian. The effects of globalization and internet technology on labor protection are substantial. Offshore aggregators (food delivery, cabs, etc.) charge up to 25–30% of the order, which impacts the income of Kyrgyz migrants in Russia. This makes it difficult to secure their labor rights.
